PM Prime Minister says he believes in transparency and good governanceJuly 23, 2013
Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that most of the time and energies of the present government have been consumed to address the much daunting issue of energy in the country and ensure smooth availability of electricity to domestic users, industries and other sectors.
The Prime Minister said this while interacting with senior media persons here at Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister said that poor policies and no attention of the previous governments towards the much important energy sector has put the power sector in shambles.
He further said that not only production of cheap electricity is a challenge but revamping the transmission and distribution system also needs due attention and huge investments.
While talking about the challenges faced by the government, the Prime Minister said that most of the state’s owned institutions including PIA, Railways and Pakistan Steel Mills are eating up billions of rupees of taxpayers’ money to keep them surviving.
The Premier said that he believes in transparency, good governance and fair play and would ensure them at all costs. He further added that electricity thieves of billions of rupees need to be brought to justice who do not only deprive thousands of this facility but harm the national economy also.
The Prime Minister urged the media persons to give their input in the government’s energy policy so that the country is relieved of this menace. He added that energy is a national issue and everybody must contribute to make the present’s government energy policy a success.
The Prime Minister interacted with media persons and responded to their queries after a detailed presentation on the energy road map and future plans of the present government.
