KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association PMA Center and Karachi on Tuesday took a serious notice of the news that the Sindh government was mulling to bring an amendment bill 2013 to the Assembly session which will enable the incumbent Vice Chancellors of Dow University and Mehran University to continue with their assignment and complete their third term as the VC of their respective universities.

A high level meeting of was held at PMA House Karachi and attended by Dr S Tipu Sultan, Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad, Dr IB Baloch, Dr M Idrees Adhi, Dr Qazi M Wasiq, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Sirajuddulla, Dr Shaukat Malik, Dr Khalil Mukaddam and others.

PMA believed that such an amendment, brought forward, will be an illegal and unconstitutional act of the provincial government, liable to be challenged in a court of law. PMA also believed that any legislation by the law makers should be in a larger interest of the masses rather than benefiting for an individual. PMA further believed no one should be indispensible for the institutions.

PMA demanded of the Sindh government to refrain from brining up this controversial amendment bill to the assembly and respect the justified demand of the medical fraternity. PMA also demanded of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Chief Justice of Sindh High Court to take suo moto action and stop this legislation before it becomes law of the land.
