Karachi: Preparations are under way to once again fleece the nation on Dr Shakil Afridi case and a drama would soon be staged to free him like Raymond Davis, while our political leadership lacks consensus on Dr Aafia Siddiqui issue, said Pasban Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor here Sunday.

He said all seems set to free the national traitor Shakil Afridi. Though some people would protest, but their protest would be just for political point scoring. These are the same people who had also raised hue and cry when stage was set to free the CIA contractor Raymond Davis who had murdered Pakistani citizens. However, when he was freed the baffled protestors also remained silent. He said these meek and useless protests have become the hallmark of Pakistani politicians. He feared that even our leadership seems hapless in the case of Shakil Afridi, adding at least they should take serious efforts for the release and repatriation of innocent Aafia.

Altaf Shakoor said our politicians quarrel for petty interests. They join government or threaten to leave it on minor issues. They drag their political opponents in courts, but always go silent when it is the matter of Aafia release. He asked why the political parties are reluctant to issue white papers on the issue of imprisonment and atrocities being meted out to Aafia Siddiqui. He said all politicians should be united on the issue of Aafia and they must pledge that they would not allow the release and repatriation of traitor Shakil Afridi till the release of Aafia.

Altaf Shakoor warned that unconditional release of Dr Afridi would be a cruel joke with the Aafia family. He said now when the federal cabinet has approved the European Council Treaty and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has also okayed it, hidden hands have come into motion to facilitate Dr Shakil Afridi. He reminded that Raymond Davis was also facilitated in a similar manner through courts. He said it seems the history is repeating itself once again. He said the hype of Karachi operation seems a smokescreen to get released and repatriated Shakil Afridi, silently. He asked are only the national traitors entitled to be facilitated through the hidden government efforts and manipulated legal course.

Pasban leader said the government of Mian Nawaz Sharif should learn a lesson from the fate of Zardari regime. The government should not further test the patience of the nation on Aafia issue. He said now questions are also being raised why the European Council Treaty was preferred to the American Treaty which was comparatively less complex and may have directly benefitted Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is in a US jail and not in a prison of any EU country.

He asked why our religious leaders are silent on these issues and reluctant to come out of their ‘Hujiras’. The history of Islamic movements is full of the wars to defend the honour of daughters, but the Islamic movement in Pakistan is criminally silent on the matter of the honour of the daughter of the nation.

Pasban demanded of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to take urgent efforts for the release of Aafia, adding Aafia could be released within a couple of days if the prime minister takes really serious interest. It apprehended that to offset possible strong reaction of Pakistani masses on potential release of Afridi, a treaty was signed to console the Pakistanis that efforts are also under way for the release of Aafia Siddiqui.
