PPP candidate files contempt application against CEC

Karachi: A candidate of Pakistan Peoples’ Party PPP, Abdul Aziz Memon, who contested election from NA249, on Tuesday, filed a contempt of court application against Chief Election Commissioner and others for flouting court orders pertaining to holding free and fair elections in the city.

The applicant submitted that the Sindh High Court had observed that Election Commission of Pakistan ECP shall do needful to ensure free and fair elections are held. He submitted in his application that CEC has failed to hold fair and free elections in the city.

He said that he had filed so many applications before the ECP and informed it about preparations of the prepoll rigging but ECP did not swing to action deliberately.

Citing chief elections commissioner, provincial election commissioner, returning officer of NA249, home secretary and IG Sindh as alleged contemnors, the applicant prayed to court initiate contempt of court proceeding against contemnors.
