PPP, PMLN era loans’ repayment hampers subsidy on essential commodities: Information Minister

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says government is unable to give subsidy on daily use items especially edibles and petroleum products due to repayment of foreign loans taken by previous governments.

Addressing the oath taking ceremony of Pakistan Television Employees Union in Islamabad today [Thursday], he said from 1947 to 2008, Pakistan took loans amounting to six thousand billion rupees to execute mega projects and build institutions.

He said, while twenty-three thousand billion rupees were borrowed during past two tenures of Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

He said prices of petroleum products in the international market have witnessed a sharp rise and Pakistan has to import oil products.

The Minister said the PPP and PML-N, during their tenures, ruined the national institutions like PTV, Radio Pakistan and PIA.

Fawad Chaudhary said, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, after coming into power, made serious efforts to reinvigorate institutions.

Earlier, he administered oath to newly elected office bearers of the PTV employees Union.

Secretary Information and Broadcasting Shahera Shahid was also present on the occasion.
