Sudanese President Omer Hassan al-Bashir has pledged support for South Sudan State to achieve reconciliation, peace and security and to overcome the effects of the five-year war in the country.

President Bashir made the statements during a meeting here on Monday with his South Sudan’s counterpart Salva Kiir Mayardit. He expressed Sudan’s willingness to make every effort to ensure the implementation of the power-sharing deal signed by the South Sudanese warring factions in Khartoum on Sunday.

Bashir noted that the coming period will not be easy as all South Sudan’s leaders are required to be wise and patient in order to overcome any obstacles to the implementation of the peace agreement and achievement of the national reconciliations.

For his part, President Kiir expressed his thanks to Bashir for Sudan’s efforts that crowned with signing the final peace agreement, pointed out that the deal could not have been reached without those efforts.

It is noteworthy that Khartoum hosted weeks-long talks between South Sudan’s rivals, under the auspices of President Bashir and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to end the civil war that broke out in South Sudan State in 2013, two years after the breakaway from Sudan.
