KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf PTI candidates Arif Alvi, Khurram Sher Zaman and Samar Ali Khan got lead in repolling at 43 polling stations of NA250 and 10 of PS112 and 33 of PS113 respectively here on Sunday amid low voters’ turnout. The repolling started at 8:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm without any break.

According to unofficial results of 39 polling stations of NA250, Alvi secured 13,482 votes and remained first, while Jamaat-e-Islami JI leader Naimatullah Khan Advocate obtained 446 votes and stood second.

The results of 7 polling stations of PS112 showed that PTI candidate Khurram Sher Zaman secured 2,581 votes and remained first, while Awami National Party ANP leader Khalid Iqbal got 177 votes.

The result of 20 polling stations of PS113 showed that PTI candidate Samar Ali Khan secured 5,860 votes and remained first, while PMLN contestant Saleem Zia obtained 2,165 votes and stood second.

The turnout at the polling stations located in the strongholds of those parties which boycotted the selective repolling remained very low, however, it remained much in other areas of NA250, PS112 and PS113.

Police, Rangers, and military personnel were deployed at the polling stations to provide security to voters and Election Commission of Pakistan staff. They also carried out patrolling in NA250, PS112 and 113 constituencies to avoid any untoward incident. However, on late Saturday night, Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf PTI Sindh Zahra Shahid Hussain was shot dead near her house in DHA Phase IV.

PTI Chief Imran Khan has strongly condemned the murder of Zahra and held MQM Chief Altaf Hussain responsible for it. Altaf Hussain also condemned the murder of Zahra. MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar criticized Imran Khan for involving MQM chief in the murder without any investigation.

Earlier, polling was not held in these stations as per schedule on May 11 due to absence of presiding officers and election staff.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM, Pakistan People’s Party PPP, and Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen MWM had boycotted the repolling after ECP rejected their demands of holding re-election in the entire constituency.
