Karachi: Former Pakistan’s skipper Rashid Latif said that the inclusion of veteran allrounder Shahid Afridi for the West Indies Tour would not benefit the team.

“Good for him Afridi that he is back in the team, but it will only benefit him, not the team, I am afraid”, the outspoken Rashid Latif said.

Afridi was not selected for the important assignment of Champions Trophy but after team’s dismal show in the tournament, Afridi has been brought back in the team.

The former wicketkeeper batsman criticized the selection committee and management for picking batsman Umar Akmal as a first choice wicketkeeper for T20 matches, saying that it showed the negative approach of the authorities.

“Choice of Umar Akmal as wicketkeeper is a question mark on management’s mindset. We have other keepers yet promoting Akmal is just indigestible for me”, added Rashid, who is considered as one of the best wicketkeepers in cricket of his time.

“Even Kamran Akmal would not have been a bad choice. Since last few years he was mediocre behind the wickets but was kept in the side, now when he showed immense improvement, he was dropped, this philosophy is out of my mind at least”, Rashid said.

“Kamran Akmal’s batting performance is below par, but he has always scored at the top. Lately as a wicketkeeper I found him better than ever.” said Latif

Meanwhile, Rashid said that the home team West Indies has been playing well and if Pakistan wants to conquer them at their own backyard they the team has to perform exceedingly well.

“West Indies have been playing well and it wouldn’t be easy for Pakistan to beat the side, but my worry is that if Pakistan loses the series, then forming a new team would be an uphill task for the management”, Rashid stressed.
