Dr. Atta Hussain Soomro briefly described the functions and scope of their institution at Tando Jam. He apprised that they are working in the research for introducing new rice seeds and also to enhance the yield of the existing rice seeds at maximum.

Mr. Rafique Suleman informed them that farmers are not fully aware how to handle the rice crop properly, further, they do not have the warehousing facility at their fields and therefore, we have to see 10-12% Post Harvest losses, 35-40 % Broken Rice as well as moisture of the rice is also on very high side, due to which we have to process the rice at our Mills with maximum capacity to enable the rice to export to international market. He suggested that Sindh Government must give the Dryers to Farmers on subsidized rate, so that we could get the rice with a good quality.

Dr. Atta Hussain informed that they have already recommended Sindh Government for the approval of giving Dryers to farmers with 70% subsidy by Sindh Government which will be soon approved and funds will be allocated by World Bank.

Mr. Rafique Suleman further informed that REAP with the support of Department of Plant Protection, intends to organize a Seminar in Sindh to educate farmers and give them awareness to obtain the better quality of rice. He suggested to hold the seminar at Rice Research Institute, Dokri very soon, so that maximum participation of growers may be possible.

In the end, Mr. Rafique Suleman, Chairman REAP presented REAP’s crest to Dr. Atta Hussain Soomro, Director General, Agricultural Research Sindh, Tando Jam and assured full cooperation from REAP for the betterment of rice trade.
