SC: SC admits premier’s letter seeking judicial probe into rental power case as petitionMarch 9, 2013
Islamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan requesting for a judicial commission to be formed over allegations of corruption in Rental Power case has been accepted as a petition in the Supreme Court.
The apex court will hear the petition tomorrow Monday March 11 2013. It stated that either the prime minister or a counsel authorised to represent him, can appear before the court for the hearing.
According to a press issued on Saturday the Supreme Court of Pakistan has registered the letter received from Prime Minister of Pakistan for appointment of independent commission headed by Dr. Shoaib Suddle in Rental Power Projects case as Civil Miscellaneous Application, fixed it for 11.03.2013 in the Court and issued notice to Raja Pervez Ashraf to appear in person or through ASC.
After going through the contents of the letter, the Chief Justice Mr. Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has passed the following order:
“The letter received may be registered subject to all just exceptions as Civil Miscellaneous Application. Fix this letter in Court on 11.03.2013. Notice to Raja Pervaiz Ashraf be issued either to appear in person or through duly authorized representatives i.e. ASC who had been appearing on his behalf in earlier proceedings”.
The Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who is among those accused in the RPP case wrote a letter to the Supreme Court requesting it to form a judicial commission to look into the case.
