Seminar on Sindh Through Centuries from March 24March 6, 2014
KARACHI: A meeting of preparatory committee formulated by Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) for holding 3- Day Second International Seminar on “Sindh Through the Centuries” from March 24 to 26, 2014 at a local hotel in Karachi, held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of SMIU, with Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of SMIU, in chair.
In the meeting all arrangements made for the international seminar so far were reviewed in detail and then some important decisions were taken to make the mega event a successful. In the meeting responsibilities were also assigned to the faculty and staff members for remaining preparations.
Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, while addressing the meeting said it is the first international seminar that is being organized by the Alma Mater of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah just after two years of getting university status.
He said about 70 international and national scholars and academicians are attending the international seminar, which will prove a mega event of the country of recent days.
He said besides inaugural and concluding sessions there would be 14 technical sessions on history, archaeology, Sindhi language, culture, anthropology, Sindhi literature and other subjects related to Sindh.
Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh further said Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, opposition leader in the National Assembly of Pakistan and Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan, author of the book of “Indus Saga” and opposition leader in the Senate will address inaugural session. While noted historian Dr Hamida Khuhro, prominent linguist Dr Ghulam Ali Allana and Dr Ishrat Hussain, former Governor of State Bank of Pakistan would be keynote speakers on three days of the seminar respectively.
The vice chancellor of SMIU further said the Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Ms. Sharmila Farooqui, provincial minister for culture and tourism will also host receptions for the guests of the seminar.
“During three days of the international seminar, programmes of music of the Indus will also be held,” Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh said and added that “Sindh Through the Centuries” seminar is being organized to rediscover history, culture, language, beauty, wisdom, technical and commercial skills, literature and other aspects of Sindh through fresh research work done by national and international scholars on Sindh.
The meeting was attended by officiating deans of various departments of SMI University, different officials and other related staff members.
