SHC asked to retain Musharraf name on ECL

KARACHI: A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday for retaining the name of General retired Pervaiz Musharraf on Exit Control List (ECL) till the treason case against him is decided.

Advocate Moulvi Iqbal Haider, filed a petition citing secretaries of ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs and ministry of Interior, director general Federal Investigation agency and General retired Pervaiz Musharraf as respondents.

He submitted in his petition that following the directions of apex court, FIA conducted the investigation into treason case against Musharraf and submitted a report to the federal government.

He said that a three-member bench headed by SHC Justice Faisal Arab had been constituted to hear Musharraf’s trial under article 6 of the Constitution. He submitted that Musharraf wanted to leave the country, therefore, he approached SHC for removal of his name from ECL.

The petitioner requested the court to declare that Musharraf’s name on ECL be kept till the disposal of treason case against him and restrain federal authorities from striking off his name from ECL.
