Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP to decide the application of PPP candidate, who lost provincial assembly seat PS86 in Thatta for recounting the votes within time.

A division bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab disposed of the petition of PPP candidate Parveen Laghari while giving such direction. The petitioner submitted that she begged 41149 votes and his rival candidate, Syed Hussain Shah Shirazi, got 41675 votes. She added that she lost provincial assembly seat with margin of 526 votes.

She said that returning officer has not verified the rejected votes. She stated that she had approached the ECP for recounting of the votes and verification of rejected votes, which has not so far been decided. She prayed to court to direct ECP for recounting of the votes.

The bench after hearing her arguments observed that if notification of winning candidate is issued, even after pending application can be decided by the commission. It said that in case ECP is unable to decide the application, obviously law will take its own course and petitioner will be free to seek remedy under the law.
