KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed Interior Ministry to remove the name of the father of convict Shahrukh Jatoi, who was awarded death sentence by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for murdering 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan in Defence area in Karachi, from Exit Control List (ECL).

A division bench headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued this direction on a petition filed by Sikander Jatoi, who approached the court against placement of his name on the ECL.

Jatoi said police cleared him of charges in the murder case and did not mention his name in the charge sheet, but he was not being allowed to travel abroad. He requested the court to issue directives to interior ministry to strike his name off the ECL.

The bench observed that petitioner Jatoi was let off in Shahzeb murder case while other accused were convicted by ATC. Hence, the bench ordered removal of his name from ECL.

Shahrukh Jatoi along with Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur were sentenced to death, while Talpur’s brother Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and their employee Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were handed down life terms by an anti-terrorism court on June 7 last year. The four were found guilty of shooting dead Khan in his car in Phase V of Defence on December 25, 2012.
