SHC directs SP Keamari to remove encroachments

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed SP Keamari to remove all kinds of encroachments along seashore from Keamari to northern side.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam gave direction while hearing the petition filed by Pakistan Fisherfolk Development Organization that sought action against cutting of mangroves by land grabbers in Kakapir Village near Sandspit, Karachi.

On request of Assistant Advocate General, SHC on June 30, 2011 had appointed a Nazir to inspect the site to determine factual position. The Nazir later filed his report in court.

Report disclosed that mangroves was being cut and some debris of removed mangroves were found at sites and several premises are built along the seashore and these premises starts from Keamari Docks Chowrangi to northern side.

The bench directed the board of revenue to collect the Google map of the areas along seashore from year 2010 and onward to see the original position of land and encroachment along it.

The bench also directed Inspector General of Police to take action against local police, who facilitated such encroachment.
