SHC gives more time to Sindh govt for submission of commentsSeptember 2, 2013
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court SHC Monday allowed provincial authorities more time to submit comments in a petition against doctors’ strikes at the government hospitals.
A division bench SHC headed by Justice Muneeb Akhtar adjourned the hearing till September 11, after the provincial law officer requested the court for more time to file replies.
The petitioner, Rana Faizul Hasan, submitted in a petition that three patients died and thousands of others had to suffer due to frequent strikes of doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre JPMC, which, he said, had become “a hub of politics” instead of providing medical treatment to patients.
He said doctors being in noble profession should adopt other ways to register their protest.
The petitioner said the authorities concerned should formulate a strategy to avert such strikes and take steps to eliminate political interference in government hospitals for personal interests and to prevent appointment of favourites.
Petitioner pleaded the court to declare strikes at the government hospitals as unlawful, and direct the police to register cases against organisations that gave strike call which resulted in the death of three patients.
