SHC grants pre-arrest interim bail to nominee of container scam

KARACHI: Sindh High Court SHC has awarded a pre-arrest interim bail to forwarding and clearing agent, nominated in ISAFNATO container scam.

A division bench headed by Justice Irfan Sadat Khan granted bail to Waqas Shahabuddin in sum of Rs2million surety.

ISAFNATO container scam involved the issue of missing containers that were meant for international forces in Afghanistan under the Afghan Transit Trade agreement, which caused a loss of around Rs, 50 billion in evasions and pilferage of duties. It was reported that a number of consignments imported under have not reached the destination.

Waqas Shahabuddin submitted that he was nominated in two references lodged by NAB pertaining to missing NATO containers scam. Applicant submitted that he was forwarding and clearing agent and has nothing to do with the offence.

He submitted that many other coaccused nominated in case had been awarded pre-arrest interim bail by the court, so he may also be granted such bail.

The bench granted him bail and issued notices to the NAB director general and the deputy attorney general for a date to be fixed by the court office.
