SHC issues notices on petition against pillion ride ban

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday put chief secretary Sindh, home and law secretaries and other official respondents on notice in a petition against ban on pillion ridding in Karachi.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam was hearing the petition of Rana Faizul Hasan representing an NGO, United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, who submitted that home ministry once again has slapped the ban pillion riding on March 4, as a part of security measures.

He submitted that two million people of Karachi were suffering due to ban on pillion riding as they have to pay fares and more time is consumed in buses or other private transport vehicles.

The petitioner referring to pillion riding said that putting ban into effect was equal to economic genocide. He said that that the ban was violation of the citizens fundamental rights guaranteed under the Articles 4, 8, 9 and 25 of the Constitution.

The hearing of case was adjourned to office later be fixed by court office.
