SHC order adequate security to ATC judge

Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday ordered provincial authorities to provide adequate and effective security to the former judge of Antiterrorism Court ATC.

A division bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar also issued notice to the respondents and put off the hearing to May 28.

The petitioner former Judge of ATC, Syed Hassan Shah Bukhari, represented by Hassan Khursheed advocate impleaded home secretary, IG Sindh and SSP security zone as respondents.

The petitioner submitted that being a presiding officer of ATC he had decided a number of high profile cases including Nishtar Park bombing case and Corps Commander attack case.

The petitioner submitted that he has serious threats to his life and family. He said three incidents of firing at his house have already been taken place. He stated that chief justice of SHC had provided him security, which according to him provincial government has withdrawn.

Hence, he prayed to court to direct authorities concerned to provide him security. The court ruled that adequate and effective security be provided to retired judge and his family.
