Karachi: The Sindh High Court SHC on Tuesday put Election Commission of Pakistan ECP and provincial election commissioner on notice in a petition seeking immediate distribution of seats reserved for women and non-Muslim in Sindh Assembly.

The petitioner, National Peoples’ Party represented by its leader Farooq Ahmed Khan Lodhi submitted that candidates of his party have emerged successful on provincial assembly seats PS21 and PS22. However, he said that two candidates lost seat to rival candidates with margin of only 9 and 50 votes.

He said that there are total 130 seats in the provincial assembly including 29 reserved seats. He submitted that Lubna Kaukab Lodhi has filed nomination papers for reserved seat for women from his party. Though, he added that the ECP has not initiated the process of distribution of seats reserved for women and non-Muslim in provincial assembly.

He prayed to court to direct the ECP to start distribution of reserved seats. A division bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab issued notice to the respondents and adjourned the hearing to May 31.
