SHC seeks comments on petition for whereabouts of a ‘kari’

Karachi: Sindh High Court SHC on Wednesday directed police official, advocate general Sindh and other respondents to file comments in a petition seeking whereabouts of a woman, who is stated to have been murdered after being declared ‘Kari’ by Jirga.

The petitioner, farther of the Aisha, who got married with her cousin Mumtaz Almani after consent of both families, submitted that in a May 2013 he was informed that her daughter had eloped with a person named Naimatullah.

He said that Naimatullah handed over her daughter to landlord Haji Ahmed Khan in Dadu district, who headed a Jirga and declared her daughter Kari. He said that after being declared Kari, she was handed over to her husband, who later informed him that her daughter had been murdered over “Karo Kari” and her dead body thrown into river.

He submitted that it was published in the various newspapers that her daughter was alive and residing in Karachi. He prayed to court to direct the police to produce her daughter in the court if she was alive.

A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai issued notice to SHO police station Dadu district, advocate general of Sindh and respondent Haji Ahmed Khan, who headed the Jirga to file comments.
