Sindh High Court (SCH) has given the provincial government a three-week deadline to complete legislation on punishment for the manufacturing and sale of Gutka.

A division bench of the SHC headed by Justice Salahuddin Panwhar heard the case related to action against the making and sale of Gutka across the province.

The court had summoned the provincial Secretary Health in the case. He informed the court that he has sent the summary to high ups in this regard.

The court directed speedy completion of the process and set a deadline for the Sindh government the process has to be completed by December 10. Justice Salahuddin observed that the anti-Gutka campaign should continue across the province as well.

Secretary Health informed the court that his department has submitted the record of patients being treated for diseases caused by Gutka.

Note that the Sindh government had slapped a blanket ban on the sale, purchase, and manufacturing of this cancer-causing chewing-tobacco related item last month.

Since then, thousands of people have been apprehended and fined after being found consuming and selling the product.
