Sindh assembly condemns murder of Sajid Qureshi

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly here on Saturday strongly condemned the targeted killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM MPA Muhammad Sajid Qureshi and demanded arrest of the killers.

The house met with speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani in chair. PPPP MPA Sardar Muhammad Muqeem Khan Khoso took oath of affirmation.

MQM members attended the sitting wearing black armbands to condemn the targeted killing of their MPA Muhammad Sajid Qureshi PS103 Karachi.

The house had to debate the provincial budget for fiscal 201314, but it did not carried out further proceeding due to the death of sitting MPA Muhammad Sajid Qureshi MQM who was gunned down in Karachi along with his son on previous day Friday. It is the tradition of Sindh Assembly to adjourn the house without carrying out any business, after offering Fateha, in case of demise of any of its sitting member.

After the recitation from the Holy Quran, and Naat Sharif, the members requested the speaker for Fateha prayer for the slain MPA Muhammad Sajid Qureshi. In their requests for Fateha prayer both treasury and opposition members strongly condemned the targeted killing of their colleague. They spoke for 45 minutes.

The leader of the opposition, Faisal Ali Sabzwari MQM strongly condemned the killing of Sajid Qureshi. He said workers and leaders of MQM are being targeted but the government not taking any action.

Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon PPPP said they equally share the grief of MQM. He strongly condemned the killing of Sajid Qureshi.

Syed Sardar Ahmed MQM strongly condemned the murder of their MPA and demanded that the Sindh Chief Minister should take notice of the situation.

Khawaja Izharul Hassan MQM said the attack on Sajid Qureshi is the attack on whole Sindh Assembly. He said the government has failed to rein in the criminals and terrorists.

Nusrat Bano Sehar Abbasi PMLF strongly criticized the Sindh government for its failure to control law and order. She said if the Sindh home department failed to bring peace in the province the federal government would have to intervene to ensure protection of life and property of citizens.

Irfanullah Khan Marwat PMLN showed concern on the murder of the Sindh assembly member. He asked if the government would take action when all the MPAs of this house would be killed one by one.

Deputy speaker Syeda Shehla Raza PPPP said law and order in Sindh was being deteriorated under a conspiracy. She said Punjab is harbouring camps of terrorists and extremists. She said despite killings of many MPAs they would not bow down before the terrorists.

Provincial Minister for Jails Manzoor Hussain Wassan PPPP said his government would hold an all parties conference on law and order situation in Karachi. He said stern action would be taken against criminals and terrorists.

Syed Hafeezuddin PTI lambasted the provincial government for its lukewarm steps against terrorists. He demands serious steps be taken to eliminate criminals and terrorists and bring back peace to Karachi.

Waqar Hussain Shah MQM said hidden hands had targeted his party. He urged the government to take foolproof steps for ensuring a lasting peace in Karachi.

Mahtab Akbar Rashdi PMLF strongly condemned the murder of Sajid Qureshi. She expressed sympathy to MQM and asked the law enforcing agencies to take stern action against those involved in the murder and ensure early arrest of the killers.

Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon PPPP through a motion requested the speaker that as per tradition of the assembly after the Fateha prayer Dua no further proceedings would be carried out as a token of respect to the departed soul. The speaker put the motion before the house which unanimously supported it.

Later, the speaker adjourned the sitting till Monday, June 24, 2013 at 9:30am.
