Sindh govt settles electricity bill with HESCO, SEPCONovember 20, 2013
Ratodero, Sindh: The provincial government has settled the electricity bill issue with HESCO and SEPCO. Sources said the Energy Department, Electricity Monitoring & Reconciliation Cell, Government of Sindh, Karachi, in a letter addressed to all the Additional Chief Secretaries, Senior Board of Revenue Member, Chairman, Chief Ministers Inspection Team, SPSC, Provincial Election Authority, Ombudsman, all administrative secretaries, administrators, IGP, Divisional Commissioners, deputy commissioners and Sindh Services Tribunal Registrar asking them not to entertain the electricity bills for the period prior to July 2010 as a total amount of Rs:6.4 billion has been paid against HESCO & SEPCO claim of Rs:28.80 billion and the HESCO & SEPCO has waived off the remaining balance of Rs:19.4 billion.
The letter further said that since the matter is sensitive where Government of Sindh exchequer is involved, therefore, “top priority” should be assigned to this issue.
This letter was issued on 24th September, 2013 by Section Officer-III (EM&RC) which reached in Health Department, Karachi and its Section Officer (Budget) Shahid Hussain, issued a circular letter on 08th October, 2013 addressed to all their subordinates in Sindh including Director General Health Services. Ironically this “top priority” letter was received after one month in Larkana on 6th November, 2013.
The letter further added that the above decision was taken in the meeting of CCI sub-committee held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister on January 08 and subsequent approval of these decisions by the Board of Directors of HESCO & SEPCO hence the electricity dues against all government departments and its entire entities i-e local governments, Taluka municipal administrations, union councils & provincial autonomous bodies etc. now stood zero as of June 2010.
The letter further said that as such lower formation and all DDOs may strictly be directed not to entertain the electricity bills for the period prior to July 2010. Any bill issued by HESCO & SEPCO prior to July 2010 or containing units/amount in current bills for the said period should straightaway be returned to the concerned DISCO, under intimation to the Energy Department.
Copies of this letter have also been sent to Deputy Secretary (Staff) to the Sindh Chief Minister and Secretary of the above department for information & further necessary action.
