Sindh wheat production target set at 4.02m tonsFebruary 24, 2014
RATODERO: Additional Chief Secretary for Food, Naseer Muhammad Jamali, said on Monday that the target for wheat crop production has been fixed from 4 to 4.02 million tons in Sindh, out of which 1.3 million tons would be procured by Sindh government.
This he disclosed while chairing a meeting held at Commissioner Larkana office. Assistant Commissioners, Mukhtiarkars and representative of growers also participated in the meeting. He said that a target of wheat procurement has been set, and according to which 35,000 tons wheat would be purchased each from Larkana & Kambar-Shahdadkot districts, 20,000 tons each from Shikarpur & Jacobabad districts and 25,000 tons from Kashmore district.
He said committees would be established at Taluka level for this purpose. He further said that distribution of Bardana would be made easy for the peasants and growers for which Taluka committee recommendation would be must.
Jamali further told that stock of wheat kept in the godowns would be released by 15 March. He claimed that the wheat flour rate is lower in Sindh than Punjab and added that if wheat was procured by the Sindh government more than its annual requirement, then it becomes useless and cannot be consumed.
He further said that wheat procurement centers would be declared on or before 25 March 2014 and wheat policy would also be issued. Each food inspector will be given one centre and nobody will be given more than it.”
He said that wheat rate would remain unchanged at Rs 1200 per 40 kg as it was during the last year. Growers representative told ACS that Bardana was usually given to influential people, which was great injustice.
