KARACHI: Sindhi Culture Day was celebrated with renewed zeal and commitment to conserve the culture and heritage of the province. Various political and nationalist parties took out rallies in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and other cities, towns to mark the day in traditional style. The jubilant men, women and children danced on roads, streets and other places on the tunes of national Sindhi songs.
The people across Sindh province wore Sindhi Topi and Ajrak to show unity and solidarity with each other for saving the culture of Sindh. Many buildings in villages, towns and cities were decorated with flags and banner. The schools, colleges, universities across Sindh province were decorated with cultural banners and flags. The people exchanged gifts of Sindh Topi and Ajrak besides distributing sweets.
Nationalist parties, including Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, convoys also gathered outside Karachi Press Club and Governor House to mark Sindh Culture Day. The participants raised slogans in favour of Sindh and its people, while leaders highlighted the culture of Sindh.
In Nawabshah, there was an Eid-like atmosphere as people at many places were seen dancing on the tunes of national Sindh songs. They were wearing Sindh Topi and Ajrak and raising slogans for integrity and prosperity of Sindh.
Activists of social and political parties, and students and teachers wearing Sindhi Topi and Ajrak gathered outside local press club to mark the day. They The students also took out rallies in many big and small cities besides holding music programs and tableaus. The literary sittings were also held in several cities and towns to highlight Sindhi culture.
Consul General Michael Dodman and the staff of the US Consulate General Karachi also celebrated Sindhi Culture Day with a reception and Qawwali concert. The American Qawwali band Fanna-Fi-Allah performed a set of traditional Qawwali songs, including Qalandar’s Dhamaland Moor Muhara, for invited media and guests.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Patron-in-Chief, Pakistan People’s Party has congratulated the people of Sindh on the festivities being observed across the province to celebrate Sindh Culture Day.
Bilawal emphasized on this cultural day that it is about time we save Sindh’s heritage and urged the government to take measures to protect Sindh’s heritage sites.
The Sindhi Cultural Day is celebrated worldwide every year on December 8 by wearing Ajrak and Sindhi Topi.
