Sports: Cricket: Afridi, Younis get top category contracts

Karachi: Although former skippers Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi failed to convince the selectors for their place in the Champions Trophy squad, yet the duo managed to get top central contracts from Pakistan Cricket Board PCB.

Afridi and Younis didn’t found a place in the squad for Champions Trophy, who left on Tuesday for Britain. Both the players were out of touch for some time and their axing for the important event didn’t come as a big surprise.

Apart from Afridi and Younis, Pakistan skipper Misbahul Haq, vice captain Muhammad Hafeez and spin maestro Saeed Ajmal got top ‘A’ category contracts.

Injured Umer Gul, Umar Akmal, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Junaid Khan, Abdul Rehman, Shoaib Malik, and Nasir Jamshed got ‘B’ category contracts.

Surprisingly experienced wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal, who is accompanying the team for Champions Trophy, got ‘C’ category contracts.

Others who received ‘C’ category contracts were Mohammad Irfan, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar, Aizaz Cheema, Adnan Akmal, Faisal Iqbal and Ahmed Shahzad.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Rahat Ali, Ehsan Adil, Umar Amin, Zulfiqar Babar, Asad Ali, Harris Sohail Sony and Anwar Ali are on board’s stipend list.
