Karachi: Pakistan junior hockey team perhaps has avenged their senior side, who lost their Asia Cup semifinal to Korea, when the colts recorded a convincing 30 victory against Korean counterparts on Sunday in Sultan of Johor Invitational Hockey Tournament at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Featuring in the first tournament under the new head coach former Olympian Manzoorul Hassan, the greenshirts played impressively in the first match of the tournament.

Players failed to convert chances from both camps in the first half, but the colts in green came with a better strategy in the second half, and then onwards dominated the match.

Mohammad Dilbar scored twice while Mohammad Umair one for Pakistan in the match to earn a formidable 30 victory for their team.

Pakistan will now take on Great Britain in their second match of the tournament on Monday.

Apart from Pakistan and South Korea, Great Britain, India, Argentina and host and defending champions Malaysia are featuring in the tournament.

“The team is in good shape and I am very hopeful of our team’s prospects in the tournament. The victory against Korea has made me more hopeful now,” Manzoor said after the team’s victory.

“The team would go to win in the remaining matches as well. Our goal in the tournament is to win the title,” he added.

Pakistan would take a day’s rest after match against Great Britain. The greenshirts would then meet traditional rival India on September 25 followed by a match with host Malaysia on September 26 and would play their last league match against Argentina on September 28 after a day’s rest.
