Takes action against the transporters involved in overcharging

Peshawar: In compliance with the orders of Peshawar High Court Peshawar, the Transport Department has taken strict action against the transporters involved in overcharging; non-adoption of safety measures in CNG operated passenger vehicles and overloading etc. throughout the province w.e.f. 01042013 to 01052013.

During the period, a total of 843 vehicles were fined for overcharging, 2047 vehicles fined for non-adoption of safety measures, 110 vehicles fined for no concession, 215 vehicles fined for overloading and 132 vehicles fined for smoke emission.

The Transport Department in this regard has received an amount of Rs. 1,246,040/1.246 million as penalty from the violating transporters. The Secretary Regional Transport Authority Peshawar has removed CNG Cylinders fitted below the passengers seats from 291 vehicles and has fitted the same on the roof of vehicles as per directions of OGRA.

It is worth mentioning that the Secretary Transport Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is personally supervising the whole process and is conducting meetings with all concerned regarding implementation of the Peshawar High Court Peshawar orders including Provincial Transport Authority PTA, Regional Transport Authorities Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu and DIKhan, LG &RD Department and Traffic Police etc.

The Secretary Transport has clarified that the provincial government will take strict action against the violating transporters and that present strategy regarding implementation of court orders will be acted upon on permanent basis.
