Two MPAs sentenced for fake degrees and dual nationalityApril 2, 2013
Peshawar: Courts in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa on Tuesday awarded sentences to two former MPAs for fake degrees and dual national. Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Member Provincial Assembly MPA Engineer Jawaid Tarakai has been sentenced to one year in jail and fined Rs 5000 by district and session judge Swabi, in a dual nationality case.
He had a Canadian nationality however during 2008 election Javid Tarakaz had concealed his dual nationality. Meanwhile Additional District and Session Judge D.I.Khan sentenced Khyber Pukhtunkhwa former member provincial assembly MPA Khalifa Abdul Qayyum to three years in prison and penalty of Rs5, 000, after hearing the fake degree case against him. Khalifa Abdul Qayyum had produced a Sanad of religious organization which was not authentic.
He had contested election as independent candidate from KP 64 D.I.Khan. He belongs to defunct Sepahe Sahaba and had supported ANP government in the provincial assembly. Following announcement of the judgment, Khalifa Abdul Qayyum was taken into custody from the courtroom and sent to jail. In a third and important case hearing of fake degree the court of additional and session judge Shaiber Khan recorded the statement of Aqil Shah, ex minister for sports and archaeology Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
Earlier Aqil Shah had filed an application with Peshawar High Court on Tuesday seeking interim relief in the case Lawyers of the Aqil Shah contended before the court that since their client has filed a case in a civil court of Lahore against the administration of American Institute of Commerce which awarded BBA degree to Syed Aqil Shah S/0 Syed Mohammad Ayub late.
However the Peshawar High Court turned down the application and directed the session court to decide the case before April 4th as per instructions of Supreme Court.
Aqil Shah lawyers also submitted the record of the case which filed in the civil judge of Mazhar Hussain Ramday in Lahore in the session court. The lawyers told the court that Aqil Shah had filed an application for action against Administration American Institute of Commerce Lahore for awarding degrees without affiliation with Higher Education Commission. After recording the statements the court adjourned the hearing till Wednesday. Later talking to this news agency lawyer of the Election Commission of Pakistan Syed Irfanullah Shah said that Syed Aqil Shah had earlier submitted the B.A degrees awarded by Punjab University but both of them proved as faked.
Later he produced another degree obtained from New Port University Karachi which also been proven faked, he said adding that in the fourth degree of BBA Which according to Aqil Shah obtained from the American Institute of Commerce during 20032007 has not been proven valid as the institution in not recognized by HEC?
