The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Nouakchott has distributed food assistance to people affected by drought in Mauritania, as part of the Year of Zayed 2018 Initiative.

The assistance, funded by the Sharjah Charity House and Sharjah Charity International, included food items, such as rice, sugar and cooking oil, which were distributed among hundreds of Mauritanian families and other needy people across rural areas in the provinces of Trarza, Brakna and Assaba. Beneficiaries commended this humanitarian gesture and extended thanks and appreciation to the UAE Embassy and the charitable organizations.

The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father, who passed away in 2004.

To commemorate this historic national occasion, UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared that 2018 would officially be known as the Year of Zayed, which features a series of nationwide and global events and initiatives.
