UN envoy discusses with Libyan officials ways to return to political track

United Nations Special Envoy for Libya Ghassan Salame met here on Tuesday with a number of Libyan officials and discussed with them the political situation at the local and international levels.

According to the Libyan News Agency (LANA), Salame met with Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri in Tripoli, where he briefed him about the outcomes of his recent visits to a number of countries around the world.

During his meeting with Presidential Council member Ahmed Omar Maiteeq, the special envoy also reviewed the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to end the ongoing fighting and return to the political track, as well as the steps taken by the Mission with the concerned authorities to address the difficult humanitarian situation caused by the aggression on Tripoli.

Salame discussed with Foreign Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Mohamed Sayala the results of his recent overseas visits aimed at building an international position to support the de-escalation of the Libyan conflict.

The UN special envoy stressed his continued efforts with all parties to end the fighting and revive the political process in the North African country.
