Water scarcity hits many areas in metropolis

KARACHI: Potable water scarcity affected citizens in many areas, particularly flats and backward localities, during post-Eid days as tanker service was not available due to religious festival, while Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) authorities could also not ensure its service in due course of time.

KWSB could not provide water to the citizens in many flats and bacward localities as claimed by its officials ahead of Eid. Water shortage created unhinge conditions in many areas in this international city.

The areas which faced acute potable water scarcity include flats in Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Lyari, Landhi and many other katchi areas. The worst-hit were villages across the city.

The population of the city has risen alarmingly, where water and sanitation condition has become a great challenge during rains. The Sindh government as well as KWSB need to raise water quantity of the city in view of massive population influx. There is need to work in this regard day and night. The industries and people living around them also face water scarcity due to lack of interest by authorities concerned.
