Wave of terrorism in Peshawar: 132 dead, 300 wounded in one weekSeptember 29, 2013
Peshawar: In the current wave of terrorism in Peshawar at least 132 people including children, women have died and more than 300 injured in just 8 days.
Peshawar, the city of flowers, so far has seen more than 210 bomb explosions, converting this city of gardens into a battlefield. Almost every dweller of the city has smelled the smoke of explosives either in hospital or on the city street during last 9 years.
Last Friday, at least 19 people were killed and dozens other injured when a planted bomb exploded in a bus carrying Civil Secretariat employees. Last Sunday, over 78 people, among them 34 women and seven children, were killed and over a hundred others injured in an attack on the All Saints Church, Kohati Gate Peshawar.
The Qissa Khawani Bazaar massacre is the third bomb attack in Peshawar in last eight days.
On average 20 people have died every day during last 7 days, whereas hundreds others received injuries, many of them fighting for life in different hospitals, particularly Lady Reading Hospital LRH. There would hardly any Pakistani who does not know the name of this hospital which never refuses to treat any number of wounded in terrorism activities in Peshawar and adjourning areas.
The blood bank of LRH during last 9 years has never experienced any shortage of blood due to generous donors whereas doctors and nurses of this hospital work long hours in emergency rooms, always crowded with injured and their sympathizers, which is really a hard job to perform.
Philanthropists and social welfare organizations are also playing their due role. AlKhidmat Foundation has taken the responsibility to provide wooden coffin boxes for the victims. City dwellers say it is sad that the business of coffin makers is flourishing while flower shops are being closed.
