World’s longest sea crossing: Hong Kong-Zhuhai bridge opensOctober 23, 2018
In China, the world’s longest Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau sea crossing opened in southern part of the country on Tuesday.
More than one billion dollars over budget, the 55 kilometer mega-bridge was inaugurated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in a ceremony in Zhuhai.
The bridge is a major step forward in China’s plan to turn the Pearl River Delta into a technology hub to rival Silicon Valley.
It will also meet the demand of both freight and passenger traffic, and boost economic development.
Its opening will cut travel time across the delta from several hours to just 30 minutes.
