Zamindars protest against load shedding

QUETTA: Zamindars took to roads against long duration load shedding in Balochistan and blocked roads leading to other parts Tuesday.

Zamindar Action Committee blocked Quetta Karachi highway, Quetta Chaman road, Quetta-Zhob, Quetta-Sibi and other inter provincial roads and highways in their protest against long duration load shedding of electricity in the province. Traffic on these roads remained blocked for several hours.

Zamindars also staged dharna at Yaro in Pishin area, Khad Koocha, Dasht, Sibi, Mastung and Ziarat Cross along Quetta Zhob highway.

Addressing on the occasion MPA elect Sardar Mustafa Tareen, Chairman Zamindar Action Committee Agha Taj Muhammad and others said that 22 hours load shedding is observed in Balochistan on daily basis. It has destroyed agriculture sector. Orchards and crops need water from May to August but electricity supply is stopped during these days it is enmity with people of Balochistan.

They said due to shortage of water 50 percent wheat crop and apple and grapes orchards have been destroyed. If supply was not improved within one week and supplied for 8 hours daily then these orchards and crops would be destroyed completely.

They announced if supply was not made according to our need within one week Zamindars would set long march on Islamabad.

They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan and coming government to take notice to save
agriculture form total collapse in the province. Dharna also adopted several resolutions.
