Sarhad University Expands Its Horizons with the Launch of Islamabad Campus

Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology, Peshawar, is pleased to announce the establishment of its Islamabad Campus. The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the University’s journey towards providing high-quality education and accessible learning opportunities to students in the capital city and its neighboring areas.

Founded in 2001 and recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC), Sarhad University has consistently delivered on its promise of academic excellence. Over 90,000 Pakistanis Left the Country in August in Search of Jobs Abroad

In the first eight months of 2023, more than 540,000 Pakistanis left the country in search of better job opportunities abroad.

According to data obtained from the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, 540,282 Pakistanis were registered for overseas employment in the first eight months of the current calendar year i.e. till August.

Till July, the number of Pakistanis who left the country stood at 450,110. This means that during August over 90,000 Pakistanis left the country in search of employment.

A breakdown of the statistics shows that 232,749 out of those who left the country in the period under review were laborers while 118,172 were drivers. Those who left the country also included 5,589 engineers, 5,216 accountants, 2,261 doctors, and 1,012 teachers.

The occupational group-wise breakdown issued by the bureau shows that out of those who left, 15,052 were highly qualified, 31,130 were highly skilled, 197,719 were skilled, 57,516 were semi-skilled, while the vast majority i.e. 238,865 were unskilled.

Out of the total, 251,655 workers moved to Saudi Arabia, 147,960 to the United Arab Emirates, 39,901 to Oman and 39,479 Pakistanis left the country for Qatar. Other notable countries on the list include Malaysia (17,647), Bahrain (8,518), Romania (4,175), Greece (2,623), and Iraq (2,373).

It is pertinent to mention here that the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment data pertains to people who have registered with the Bureau. People who move abroad for studies or through other routes such as direct immigration are not included in this list.

Last year, 832,339 Pakistanis proceeded abroad for the purpose of employment, the highest figure since 2016.

India crush Sri Lanka to secure 8th Asia Cup title

India have won final of Asia Cup 2023 beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets at Colombo today [Sunday].

Batting first, Sri Lanka were all out at 50 runs in just 15.2 overs.

In reply, India achieved the victory target only in 6.1 overs without any loss.

India have won the title for eighth time.

For India, Ishan Kishan with 23 runs and Shubman Gill with 27 runs remained the main scorers.

Mohammed Siraj of India, who secured six wickets, was declared Player of the match, while Kuldeep Yadav remained Player of the Series.

This is the lowest total in the history of Asia Cup (ODI) history since the record was previously held by Bangladesh, who scored 87 runs against Pakistan back in 2000.

PM leaves for New York to address 78th UNGA session

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar left for New York today on a five-day official visit to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He will address session of UN General Assembly on Friday.

In his address, the Prime Minister will outline Pakistan’s perspective on a range of regional and global issues including Jammu and Kashmir dispute which is amongst the longstanding unresolved items on the UN Agenda.

He will also elaborate on the significant measures being taken by caretaker government to consolidate Pakistan’s economic recovery and efforts to mobilize domestic and external investments.

During his stay, the Prime Minister will hold meetings with the global leaders on the sidelines of the session.

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will also attend an important conference on climate change.

He is also scheduled to interact with the international media and visit prominent US think tanks.

Pakistan Imported Mobile Phones Worth Rs. 33 Billion in August

Pakistan’s mobile phone imports crossed Rs. 32.7 billion in August 2023, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

According to PBS data, the imports in August 2023 were 71 percent higher than imports of Rs. 19.1 billion registered in the previous month i.e. July 2023.

The increase in imports was much higher than the imports in the same month of the previous fiscal year (FY24), going up by 135 percent compared to imports of Rs. 13.9 billion in August 2022.

In dollar terms, the imports in August stood at $111.34 million, up 63 percent compared to July 2023 and 76 percent compared to August 2022.

The imports during the first two months of the current fiscal year i.e. July and August came in at Rs. 51.85 billion, up 131 percent compared to imports of Rs. 22.44 billion registered in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

In dollar terms, the imports in July-August 2023 stood at $179.47 million, up 76 percent compared to imports of $101.86 million registered in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
