Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has reiterated the government’s resolve to effective and timely execution of CPEC projects. He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review progress on ongoing projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized fast-tracking the Karakoram Highway project, citing its strategic significance due to the construction of the Diamer Basha Dam. During the meeting, it was revealed that a delegation of financial and technical experts, led by the Chairman of the National Highway Authority, will visit China this month to finalize the implementation terms for the Karakoram Highway project.
The forum was also informed that a group of 300 Pakistani agriculture experts is scheduled to leave for China next Tuesday for training in modern agricultural techniques. Ahsan Iqbal directed authorities to take immediate steps for the operationalization of the desalination plant in Gwadar and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer season to Gwadar city.
While reviewing the development of CPEC Special Economic Zones, the Minister highlighted the importance of formulating a marketing strategy aligned with current global trends. He stressed the need for a competitive tariff regime, especially in light of recent tariff implementations by the United States, urging departments to enhance marketing efforts to attract industry reallocation.
