Islamabad: Amb. Waheed Ahmad, a former diplomat, has emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions in the Middle East, noting that it is a crucial objective for all countries in the region. He stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is actively engaging with regional leaders to advocate for a reduction in hostilities. Recently, Pakistan and Azerbaijan have underscored the necessity of calming the current conflict and restoring peace, recognizing that it serves the broader interests of the entire region.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Middle East conflict poses a significant threat as it looms close to the borders of several nations, necessitating urgent control measures. Amb. Ahmad pointed out the challenges posed by the current Israeli leadership, suggesting that international pressure is essential to ensure regional peace and stability. He also highlighted the dire situation faced by Iran, whose leadership has suffered losses, with schools and hospitals being targeted. Furthermore, he expressed uncertainty regarding the objectives of the United States in the ongoing conflict with Iran, emphasizing the critical role of oil and gas politics in the region.
In this scenario, China and Russia are reportedly exerting influence to encourage all parties to de-escalate tensions and return to normalcy. Amb. Ahmad expressed confidence that neither the United States nor Israel could achieve a lasting occupation of Iran due to the complex ground realities present.
