After a heartbreaking loss to Afghanistan, Pakistan captain Babar Azam opened up about his disappointment over the performance of the bowlers, as they failed to defend the total.
During the post-match ceremony, skipper Babar Azam stated that the bowlers were not up to the mark, which led to a disappointing defeat for Pakistan by 8 wickets.
Babar Azam said, “This hurts us. We had a good total. In the bowling, we weren’t up to the mark as we are not taking wickets in the middle overs. If you are not good in even one department, then you’ll lose the game.”
He added, “We didn’t stop boundaries and gave away runs, that cost us. Bowling: We started well, in the middle overs, we needed wickets but we couldn’t take any.”
It must be noted that this is Afghanistan’s first-ever victory over Pakistan in ODIs, and also the first time in the history of Afghanistan cricket that they have won two games in the ICC World Cup 2023. They also defeated the defending champions, England earlier in the tournament.
The Green Shirts posted a competitive total of 282-7. However, they were unable to defend it and took only 2 wickets. Afghanistan batted brilliantly and comfortably chased down the target of 283 with 8 wickets remaining in 49 overs.
