No case of Omicron’s sub-variant BF.7 detected in Pakistan so far: NIH

National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued a clarification that no case of Omicron’s sub-variant BF.7 is detected in Pakistan so far.

According to the spokesperson of NIH, since its appearance, a total of 29 cases of XBB (Omicron) have been reported from Pakistan and made it clear that this is not the BF.7 variant which is spread in the neighboring country.

Interior Minister visits PIMS Hospital, inquires about health of injured Constable

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday visited PIMS Hospital, Islamabad and inquired after the health of Constable Muhammad Hanif, who got injured in I-10 bomb blast.

He presented the injured constable a flower bouquet and a cheque.

Commending the valiance of the constable, the Minister said the government will continue taking care of the injured security personnel.

Sindh Govt taking steps to upgrade all hospitals: Bilawal

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said Sindh government is trying it level best to upgrade all hospitals at par international standards.

Talking to the media during his visit to the newly-established trauma center in Larkana city, the Foreign Minister said the trauma center Larkana will also facilitate people of Baluchistan and Punjab.

He said the federal government is facing economic challenges due to limited resource, and we are working to solve all the economic problems.

Bilawal Bhutto also visited the wards and rescue ambulances center 1122.

KS Relief provides medicines, medical equipment for underprivileged diabetic patients

King Salman Relief Center Pakistan has provided medicines and medical equipment to the Diabetes Association of Pakistan in Karachi.

This will enable the poor and underprivileged diabetic patients to get free and timely treatment and lead a healthy lifestyle.

Around 4,160 people will be benefiting from this assistance.

The package includes devices for examining blood samples, 7890 different types of insulin pens for patients, and 1,620 units of different medicines for diabetics.

The center also equipped a diabetic foot examination clinic with two examination beds, a sterilization device for surgical instruments, a doppler device for examining blood vessels, and another for examining nerves, in addition to delivering 318 different surgical tools for examination and treatment of the diabetic foot.

UHS to Develop its Own Medical and Dental College in Lahore

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has decided to develop its own medical and dental college in Lahore, which will become operational by 2024.

In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of UHS, Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, briefed the faculty and administrative heads in a meeting and said that the UHS has all resources to build the college independently in the next two years.

He further revealed that the college will be made at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 to 2.5 billion and added that a lecture theatre complex and an auditorium will be constructed in Jinnah Campus for this purpose.

In addition, hospitals in Muridke, Kala Shah Kaku, and Shahdara will be affiliated with the dental college, which will serve as a teaching center, he elaborated.

It is pertinent to mention that over 50 medical and dental colleges from Punjab and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) are affiliated with UHS.

Furthermore, he urged the faculty to commence additional undergraduate degrees for financial independence. Besides, preparations for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) were also examined during the meeting.

The VC designated Registrar, Dr. Asad Zaheer, as the Chief Courier for conducting MDCAT while other senior faculty members have been appointed as Head Couriers who will be carrying out their duties of conducting MDCAT in other cities across the province.

WHO assures to provide essential healthcare services in flood-affected areas

World Health Organisation has assured to continue to provide essential healthcare services in flood-affected areas of the country.

Speaking at a media briefing in Islamabad, the World Health Organisation’s Country Representative in Pakistan Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala said the WHO is working on a plan to assist in future preparedness for having effective healthcare systems.

He said the recent devastating floods have caused serious damage to health service delivery in the affected areas which has resulted in various health risks.

The WHO country head said an upward trend was observed in affected areas for various diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, malaria, dengue fever, skin infections and typhoid.

He said keeping in view the flood devastation, the Organization has expanded its operations on ground by establishing three Operational Hubs at Naseerabad, Sukkhar and Hyderabad, and 10 emergency operation centres in flood-affected areas of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Polio-free Pakistan is our national goal: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says a polio-free Pakistan is our national goal.

In a tweet on Friday, he said Pakistan is one of few countries that still have polio cases, which is unfortunate.

He said federal and provincial governments should do their best to eradicate polio virus as a collective mission.

He appealed to parents to cooperate with polio teams.

The Prime Minister said with access to several areas of the country virtually cut off due to flash floods, this anti-polio campaign has become all the more challenging. However, complacency is not an option.

He thanked Pakistan’s global partners, particularly Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their support in eradicating polio.

No mention of torture in Shehbaz Gill’s medical report: Senate informed

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbasi has rejected the opposition’s impression that the PTI leader Shehbaz Gill has been subjected to torture during physical remand.

Speaking in the Senate today amidst the pandemonium of PTI senators, he pointed out that there is no mention of torture in the medical report presented before the court. He said it was the PTI which used to victimize political opponents during its era.

Murtaza Javed Abbasi regretted that the PTI is bent upon ruining the political environment of the country after playing havoc with its economy.

Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman said we recognize the right of fair trial. She also mentioned that the report presented before the court does not indicate any torture against Shehbaz Gill.

Earlier, Leader of the House Shehzad Waseem, in his remarks, said they have no objection to a fair trial but there should not be any room for torture and inhumane treatment.

As the PTI Senators continued its rumpus in the house, the Chair prorogued the session.
