Pakistan heading in right direction, no risk of default: Dar

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan is heading in the right direction and it will not default despite fake speculations by opposition.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on Wednesday, he urged political parties to show some serious attitude and should not play with the country’s economy for petty political gains.

The Minister said Stock Exchange and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan are of great significance in improving country’s economy; therefore, we are focused to improve their functioning.

He said the inputs of business community will be acknowledged for this purpose. He said the restraints on imports are aimed at saving economy. He said we have not banned imports but prioritized import items under different categories so the essential items can be imported on priority basis. He said essential items including medicine and edible oil have been put in category one, energy imports in category two, imports for export oriented industry in category three while imports for agricultural industry in category four.

The Minister further said, we should learn from the mistakes of past and work together for the development of the country.

Etisalat delegation calls on Finance Minister in Islamabad

A delegation of UAE’s Etisalat International led by its Chief Executive Officer Mikhail Gerchuk called on Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Talking to the delegation, the Finance Minister highlighted the deep rooted brotherly relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

He underscored the significance of resolving outstanding issues between Etisalat and the Privatization Commission and moving ahead for a mutually beneficial solution.

The Finance Minister also highlighted prospects of foreign investment in Pakistan especially in the IT and Telecom sector which is growing rapidly and said that the Government is providing conducive environment and facilitation to attract foreign investment.

Mikhail Gerchuk briefed his company’s future investments in Pakistan and expressed readiness to further invest in the IT and Telecom sector in Pakistan.

Pakistan, Indonesia sign MoU on establishment of JMC to drive bilateral engagement, cooperation

Pakistan and Indonesia have signed an MoU on the establishment of Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) to drive bilateral engagement and cooperation.

The MoU was signed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Indonesian Foreign Minister after a meeting in Bali on Thursday.

The two foreign ministers reviewed bilateral relations, discussed regional and international situation and agreed to stay engaged.

KSA committed to rescue Pakistan’s economy: Ex-envoy

Saudi Arabia is committed to avert Pakistan’s current economic crisis to achieve political stability and safeguarding national security.

This was stated by Saudi Arabia’s former Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Ali Awadh Asseri while speaking at “Islamabad Conclave” in Islamabad.

He said Saudi leadership is committed to invest twenty billion dollars in refinery, petrochemical complex, mining and renewable energy projects in Pakistan.

Govt’s plan ready to revive economy: Dar

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says the government has prepared a plan to revive the economy.

Talking to a private news channel, he said steps are being taken to arrange over seven billion dollars and control the current account deficit.

The Finance Minister said the government is fully capable to fulfill the requirements of the IMF programme.

Pak-Africa Trade Conference to be held in Johannesburg tomorrow

The third Pakistan Africa Trade Development Conference and Single Country Exhibition begins in Johannesburg city of South Africa on Tuesday.

Around 130 companies will exhibit their products in the three day exhibition.

A delegation, comprising around 225 exhibitors and business delegates from Pakistan, representing twenty major sectors, will participate in the conference and exhibition.

Highlighting the importance of Look Africa Initiative launched in 2017, Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar has said Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding relations with South Africa and looks forward to further deepening bilateral ties with it.

Info Minister terms promotion of film industry govt’s key priority

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb says screen tourism can play a pivotal role in promoting out culture and values.

Addressing the MoU signing ceremony between Fatimah Jinnah Women University and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Islamabad on Wednesday, she said, unfortunately, film industry in Pakistan has been facing tough circumstances in the past.

The Minister said Pakistan’s Film Industry has started growing since last decade.

She said PML-N government, during its previous tenure, formulated Film and Culture Policy for the first time in the history of the country.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said promotion of the film industry is one of the primary priorities of the government. She said earning through film production is free of taxes and there is no levy on import of equipment related to film production. She added that the entertainment tax in cinemas has also been waived off.

She said government is also working on Film Finance Fund to provide grants to the young film producers. She said corporate sector has also been engaged in this regard.

The Minister said promotion of film will also highlight the positive image of the country.

Marriyum Aurangzeb offered that Fatimah Jinnah Women University can utilize resources of Radio Pakistan and PTV for imparting training to its students.

FM lauds role of Pakistani Diaspora in UK’s economic development

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has appreciated the contribution of Pakistani Diaspora towards economic development of the United Kingdom and building bridges between the two countries.

He was talking to Member Parliament UK-House of Commons and Co-Chair of All Party Parliamentary Group on Pakistan Yasmin Qureshi, who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Finance Minister expressed satisfaction at the level of Pak-UK friendship and hoped that the existing cooperation between the two countries will further strengthen in the future.

Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar welcomed Yasmin Qureshi and briefed her on the current economic outlook of Pakistan. He apprised her of various policy measures being undertaken by the present government to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth by enhancing ease of doing business, encouraging exports and facilitating foreign investment.

The Finance Minister also shared economic and financial losses incurred due to devastating floods in Pakistan. He appreciated the UK government for extending flood relief support to Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Yasmin Qureshi expressed sympathy with Pakistan over the loss of lives and properties due to devastating floods. She appreciated the economic policies of the present government in Pakistan for achieving sustainable economic growth. She further expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom will strengthen due to the pragmatic policies of the present leadership in Pakistan.
