Islamabad: Director General of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, Saeed Ahmad Shaikh, has called for united efforts from all sectors of society to work towards building a more sustainable and environmentally-secure future for Pakistan. While extending heartfelt congratulations to Radio Pakistan’s listeners worldwide on the occasion of World Radio Day, he expressed the confidence that, like in the past, Radio Pakistan will continue to play a pivotal role in raising awareness among masses about the impacts of climate change.
According to Radio Pakistan, Shaikh highlighted Pakistan’s vast geographical diversity, pointing out that the Punjab region, in particular, is severely affected by climate change, with melting glaciers causing devastating floods. He noted that these floods have historically wreaked havoc on the country’s infrastructure.
The Director General also mentioned that Radio Pakistan’s stations nationwide have been actively broadcasting programs aimed at raising public awareness on critical environmental issues. These initiatives include tree plantation drives, educating about the harmful effects of garbage burning, and promoting the need to curb the spread of carbon emissions.
