DPM Terms Islamabad MoU as Credible Framework for Future Negotiations

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has described 'The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding' as a credible framework and well-considered document that is acceptable to both parties for future negotiations.

According to Radio Pakistan, in an interview with foreign news channel Al Arabiya, Ishaq Dar stated that technical level talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland are focused on implementing the recently announced 'The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding'. He emphasized Pakistan's significant mediatory role between the United States and Iran, highlighting that Pakistan facilitated dialogue between Washington and Tehran, bringing the two sides together for the first time in forty-seven years.

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that Pakistan collaborated with regional and international partners to support mediation efforts and ensure the success of the talks. He reassured that there should be no doubts about the intentions of the signing parties. Negotiators have been given thirty days to resolve certain issues, with the broader agreement expected to be finalized within sixty days, which can be mutually extended.

Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan's stance that navigation through the Strait of Hormuz should revert to its state before February 28th, when the conflict began. He clarified that no transit or service fees will be imposed on ships passing through the Strait during the next sixty days. This period has been guaranteed for parties to work on issues with regional countries.

Regarding the structure of the negotiations to reach a final deal within the stipulated timeframe, Ishaq Dar mentioned that three technical teams are currently involved in discussions between Washington and Tehran. These committees are addressing Iran's nuclear program, frozen Iranian funds, and the situation in Lebanon.

In response to a question about the benefits of the US-Iran Peace Deal, Ishaq Dar noted that there have already been positive outcomes, including a decrease in energy prices and the resumption of ship movements.
