Government Prioritizes Closing Digital Gender Gap, Says IT Minister.


Doha: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has emphasized that the government is dedicated to bridging the digital gender divide. She made this assertion while virtually addressing the ‘Digitalization and Women in Politics’ conference held in Doha, Qatar.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shaza Fatima Khawaja highlighted the crucial need for women’s access to technology and the Internet, stressing that empowering women through digital devices and Internet connectivity is essential. She discussed the government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers preventing women from utilizing mobile phones and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Furthermore, she pointed out the socio-economic challenges that hinder women’s participation in politics. Shaza Fatima noted the significance of the Prime Minister’s Free Laptop Scheme in improving access to digital tools, which is essential for women’s empowerment. Additionally, she mentioned that the government is actively working on the
Smartphones for All Policy, which aims to further enhance digital accessibility for women.
