Islamabad: The government has decided to digitize the national economy, with all ministries tasked with implementing the measures for digitization. The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level review meeting held in Islamabad with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in the chair.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister directed the relevant authorities to immediately establish a dynamic working group for implementing and monitoring the measures for digitization. He emphasized that improving the country’s economy and eliminating the parallel informal economy is a key component of the government’s reform agenda. The reforms are being carried out at coordinated and institutional levels to ensure sustainable and long-lasting change.
The Prime Minister praised the successful digital wallet system used for the delivery of the Ramadan package and instructed that it be utilized in more sectors. The meeting was informed about the launch of an ICT application in Islamabad Capital Territory, providing access to over 150 government services.
Additionally, it was noted that the volume of payments through Rast Gateway has significantly increased. The government, in collaboration with the State Bank, is taking steps to enhance its use in daily transactions. The meeting highlighted efforts to ensure the collection of digital payments, offering various facilities to buyers and businesses to encourage digital transactions instead of cash, thereby completely digitizing government payments.
The meeting was also informed that all official payments of the federal government, including salaries and other billing, are being conducted under the digital system.
