Pakistan and Rwanda Forge Stronger Bilateral Ties Across Key Sectors


Islamabad: Pakistan and Rwanda have agreed to deepen their cooperation in areas of trade, investment, defense, diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges. This development emerged following a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe in Islamabad.



According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions between the two sides covered the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. Addressing a joint press stakeout, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the focus on strengthening existing ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration. An MOU in the field of diplomatic training was also signed, highlighting the commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations.



Ishaq Dar underscored the importance Pakistan places on its relations with Rwanda, noting the inauguration of the Rwandan High Commission in Islamabad during the visit. He highlighted Pakistan’s promising market for Rwandan products, mentioning the potential for Pakistan’s globally recognized exports such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, surgical instruments, agri-tech, and sports goods in Rwanda’s rapidly growing economy.



The Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out the potential for collaboration in Information and Communication Technology, expressing Pakistan’s interest in partnering on digital transformation, e-governance, fintech, and innovation platforms for youth. On the multilateral front, he noted the robust cooperation between the two countries, with regular support for each other’s candidature at the UN and other international forums.



Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe remarked on the shared commitment to world peace, with both countries being among the top five troop-contributing nations to UN peacekeeping missions. He emphasized that the relations between Pakistan and Rwanda are based on mutual respect and a common desire to work together in various sectors.
