New york: At the United Nations, Pakistan has reiterated the call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Radio Pakistan, the call was made by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar while delivering the national statement at the UN Security Council’s meeting on ‘The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question’ in New York today.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged the UN Security Council and the broader international community to act decisively, uphold human dignity, ensure accountability, and deliver justice. He emphasized Pakistan’s demand for establishing an international protection mechanism and ending any forced displacement of Palestinians, while upholding the right of return for refugees in accordance with international law.
Ishaq Dar called for full, unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza and the immediate lifting of the blockade to allow life-saving aid to reach those in need. He stated that the suffering of the Palestinian people is a stain on the global conscience, and that the time for words is over; the time for action is now.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for dignity, justice, and self-determination through the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and contiguous Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and al Quds al Sharif as its capital.
The Deputy Prime Minister also welcomed the two-state solution conference chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, and commended the recent recognitions of the State of Palestine by numerous UN member states, reflecting adherence to justice and the principles of international law. He highlighted that Pakistan was among the first nations to recognize the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1948.
Ishaq Dar concluded that this positive momentum must be sustained with resolute determination to achieve a just and lasting solution to the Palestine question.
