Islamabad: Foreign Office says Pakistan has always aspired for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the UN Security Council resolutions. At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said the resolution of this dispute is key to unlocking the full potential of the South Asian region.
According to Radio Pakistan, during the briefing, the Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan referred to recent statements from Indian leadership, emphasizing that Pakistan maintains a robust defense to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also addressed questions regarding Afghanistan, urging Afghan authorities to take action against terrorist organizations operating on their soil, fulfilling their previously given assurances.
Shafqat Ali Khan reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Palestine issue, affirming continued support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign, independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al Sharif as its capital. He expressed concern over the proposal to displace Palestinians from Gaza, labeling it as troubling and unjust, and emphasized that Palestinian land belongs to the Palestinian people.
Earlier, in his opening statement, the spokesperson announced that Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is scheduled to visit Pakistan next week at the invitation of the government. During the visit, Grossi will meet with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, and participate in seminars at the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the National University of Sciences and Technology. He is also expected to visit Chashma nuclear power generating stations.
The spokesperson emphasized the longstanding cooperation between Pakistan and the IAEA, noting that Pakistan is currently a member of the IAEA Board of Governors. The visit of the DG IAEA aims to reaffirm the deepening partnership between Pakistan and the IAEA, focusing on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology to foster the socio-economic development of the country.
