Karachi: Pakistan International Airlines is set to record its first net profit in over twenty years, following a process of restructuring and reforms.
According to Radio Pakistan, the national flag carrier resumed its flagship European operations after a four-year ban and achieved a twelve percent operating margin. The financial costs were significantly reduced from 79.42 billion rupees in 2023 to just 10.06 billion rupees in 2024.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer PIA Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat, the airline focused on operational profitability, cost-cutting, fleet optimization, and digital transformation. The commencement of privatization in 2024 saw the national flag carrier restructured into two entities, which improved its financial health.
Chief Executive Officer PIA Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat described 2024 as a pivotal year for PIA, with a focus on sustainable profitability and improved customer service. He noted that the airline significantly improved on-time performance, optimized route profitability, and enhanced customer service.
